HIRE YOUR OWN IRISH BAR

If anyone knows how to throw a proper party, it’s an Irish bar. At Malones Leith, you can exclusively hire our first-floor Mezzanine area, the snug, or the raised area on the ground floor and take over the space like it’s your own private pub. We’ll pour the pints – you bring the craic.

Whether it’s a birthday bash, office do, engagement party or just an excuse to gather the gang, we’re the perfect space for you.

From fresh Tennent’s Tank Lager and nostalgic Guinness pours to a wall of spirits and a whisky collection that spans the globe. Our Mezzanine even has its own private bar, which can be staffed on request.

EASY TRAM ACCESS

Getting here is easy - we’re just steps from the Constitution Street tram stop, with plenty of bus and taxi options nearby. Ideal for guests coming from across Edinburgh.

SOUND SYSTEMS & SCREENS

You have access to screens in all of our areas for catching the big game or watching TV. The Mezzanine comes equipped with its own sound system and screen - perfect for speeches or party playlists.

OUR FUNCTION ROOMS

THE MEZZANINE

The Mezzanine is the ultimate function room in Leith. It’s hidden away on its own floor overlooking the main bar at Malones, offering privacy without isolation. Thanks to a half-wall overlooking the venue, you’ll still feel part of the buzz while enjoying your own space.

Get a bird’s-eye view of the bar below, complete with our iconic Tennent’s tanks and a whisky collection that’s as impressive as it is extensive. 

This room includes a screen and AV system, ideal for presentations, speeches, or match nights. It’s a versatile space perfect for corporate events, informal wedding receptions, Remembrance Wakes, birthday parties, and any occasion where you want a little more privacy.

There’s also a private bar in the room, which we can staff on request. It comes stocked with a selection of bottled drinks, and you can pre-select two draught beers to be poured freshly for your guests.

THE SNUG

The Snug is a cosy, tucked-away corner of Malones Leith – you’re right at the main bar, but won’t have any strangers meandering in to disturb your party!

It’s close enough to the action to soak up the atmosphere and any live music, yet private enough for your guests to feel like they’ve got their own little hideaway.

This space is ideal for smaller gatherings, including birthday parties, club meetups, intimate corporate events and more.  

Its proximity to the stage means you won’t miss a beat during live music nights, while the layout offers a relaxed, spacious feel for mingling and conversation.

This area is wheelchair-friendly.

Maximum 35 seated / 45 standing.

THE RAISED AREA

The Raised Area is a semi-private space that offers seating for up to 40 people, combining comfort with a sense of seclusion. 

Located just two steps up from the main bar, it provides an elevated setting that remains connected to the lively atmosphere, while still offering a degree of privacy.

One of the standout features of The Raised Area is the two large con-glass doors that open onto the outside area, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor flow.

It’s also home to our Guinness self-pour machine – your guests will love getting to pour their own pint!

It’s perfect spot for family meals, work drinks, or social gatherings, allowing your guests to enjoy both the cosy interior and the fresh air outside.

LEITH FUNCTION ROOM FAQs

Malones Leith has 3 different options for private events, including a fully private function room and semi-private areas that can be booked. They can be booked for groups of up to 50 people, and can easily be accessed via The Shore Tram Stop.

Mara is also a great option for anyone looking for a private events space, bites and drinks. They can hire their back area for private events for up to 80 people standing, or their whole venue can be hired for up to 130 attendees.

Looking further afield, Malones Edinburgh near Haymarket has a function room that can host up to 250 people for large-scale events. It's an easy-to-reach central location thanks to its proximity to Haymarket Train Station. 

Yes, there are a few options that may be required depending on the size, scale and date/time of your booking.

 

An upfront room hire fee of £100 may be required to confirm your booking. You will be advised of this once you enquire.

 

For very large groups, we may agree a minimum spend (an amount that you and your group will agree to spend on the night) with you to confirm your booking.

 

We will advise you on if there is a deposit or other type of commitment required to confirm your booking when you enquire.

Generally speaking, you will have 7 working days to cancel your function room booking without penalty.

 

You can alternatively move your booking to another date without a fee, assuming your new date is available. 

Yes, under-18s are welcome in our venue and in the function room for events until 10pm, so long as they are accompanied with an adult.

Yes, our entire venue as well as our function room is dog-friendly.

 

We do, however, ask you to consider the safety and comfort of any dogs at your event before you tell guests it's dog-friendly. For larger-scale events, you may prefer to ask guests to leave their dogs at home.

Yes, our kitchen is open until 9pm and we have a few food options available including:

  • Canapés & Nibbles
  • Buffet spreads
  • Morning rolls

You certainly can: we have a wide range of drinks packages available including beer buckets, prosecco, wine packages, and soft drinks. You can view our current drinks packages here.

Tea & Coffee packages are also available on request.

Yes of course, let us know when booking if this would be of interest and we can organise a time for you to come in and see the space. Or, feel free to swing by whenever suits you, grab a drink and have a look.

Yes, we are happy for other businesses / sole traders to book the space and sell tickets. 

 

We will not take a commission if you do this, and we are happy to look at including drinks packages or drinks tokens for your guests. You can cover your costs by including this in the price of your ticket.

 

If you do not want a drinks package included, then we do ask that you encourage guests to order drinks from our bars so that we all benefit from the event.

 

We are happy to support with marketing as well. If you supply us with artwork, then we can create a page on our popular Events section that will link users to your ticketing platform. We are also happy to reshare any content that you tag us in.

Yes, you can decorate however you please. Please note, we strictly do not allow any confetti or items filled with confetti (if you've ever spent years cleaning confetti out of your house then you'll understand!)

 

We can also organise for you to come in early to decorate, so long as the room is free beforehand. We can confirm this with you closer to the time.
